When I first saw the commercial for the Gotham Steel non-stick frying pan. I knew I had to have one.

Seeing the fast-talking, energetic guy cook eggs, bacon and other foods with ease without adding any cooking oil just blew me away.

My favorite part of the commercial was when he would lift the pan and the food would slide right off onto the plate, leaving a spotless pan that required no hard cleaning.

I needed this pan in my life. It would make things so much easier I thought. Next thing you know, I'm rushing to Wal-mart to purchase one.

After a couple of uses, and accidentally letting some dinners overcook, my beautiful ceramic pan went from vibrant to burnt orange.

Ceramic Pan before cleaning

I silently placed it under the cabinet, ashamed that I had fell for another "non-stick" frying pan gimmick.

However, the fighter in me knew that it was too soon to give up on one of my favorite pans. So I searched high and low for ways to clean the burned on grease from it.

I saw an article that suggested using oven cleaner, which raised more health questions than what it was worth.

Then I came across a few articles, that suggested using baking soda and peroxide which I was completely out of at the moment.

So being the Thrifter that I am, I found 3 simple supplies at home that was capabable to remove the burnt grease from my ceramic pan way easier than I thought.

Supplies Needed to Remove Burnt Grease from Ceramic Pans

White Vinegar is an all around cleaner that has so many uses around the home. Due to its acidic nature, it is perfect for removing grease and stains.

Dawn Dishsoapcontains surfectants that make it easier to remove grease and clean the surfaces of your pots and pans.

Mesh Scrubbershelp to add a little bit more "elbow grease" to getting rid of burned on grease on ceramic pans.

Steps Required to Remove Burnt Grease on Ceramic Pans

  1. Fill the pan with enough water to cover grease stains and bring to a boil.
  2. Add 1 cup white vinegar and boil for 2-3 more minutes before turning off heat.
  3. While water is warm add a few squirts of Dawn dishsoap.
  4. Allow to sit for 1 minute before using mesh scrubber to scrub away grime.

After pic of cleaning ceramic pan at home

I was extremely surprised at how easy the grease came off using my method of cleaning my ceramic pans.

This method was not 100% foolproof as I had a little grease left over around the handle studs.

Leftover grease after cleaning

However, I was happy that most of the grease was removed and I could start cooking in my pan again. I'm sure if I did the steps over a second time that it could be removed but I was really content with my results.

I don't recommend this method for all ceramic pans as they may need more care or supplies. However, this method worked perfectly for me leaving no scratches and a smooth and shiny surface.

As a reminder, to make your ceramic pans last longer, remember to cook only using low to medium temperatures as really high temperatures will make your pan deteriorate faster and ruin the non-stick coating.

BONUS TIP!

So I wanted to know how could I prevent my ceramic pans from going through this disastrous stage of being covered in burnt food and grease again and I found that rubbing your pan with a little bit of vegetable oil after cleaning or before cooking does the trick!

The vegetable oil adds an extra layer of protection on your pan and makes the non-stick coating last longer.

Simply take a small drop or two and with your fingers or a cotton ball, rub the oil all over your pan. Remove any excess with a paper towel. Doing this frequently will keep your ceramic pans like new for years.

Use a few drops of vegetable oil to make make the non-stick coating last longer on your ceramic pans.

I really hope you enjoyed this post! As always, Happy Cleaning!
